The recent comments by Tulare's Mayor regarding agriculture have ignited several debates. In case you missed it, the Mayor was quoted as saying, " Ag strips the natural resources and contaminates our groundwater and air. Ag causes asthma and valley fever, cancer and kills bees." He also said "Jobs don't always depend on ag. My job as mayor depends on taxpayers."
These comments drew quite a bit of criticism on the facebook page of "My Job Depends on Ag(MJDOA)", an organization set up to educate people how their jobs might depend on ag even though they aren't directly related. If the Mayor of Tulare, the home of the largest ag show in the world and the largest ag producing county in the country, can't see how his job might in some way be related to ag...well, it just goes to show how the message still needs to get out there, and you can help.
In an effort the spread the "My Job Depends on Ag" message, Gar Tootelian has a mission of "trying to put a sign in front of every household, business and farm whose job depends on agriculture." GAR's Greg Musson tells us, "The current developments with Tulare’s Mayor and his comments about agriculture has made us more determined than ever to keep the MJDOA garden sign campaign going. We just ordered 3000 more signs and are working with several Tulare businesses to hold events to distribute these signs to the South Valley."
If you'd like one of these signs, they're free, send an email to:
They will let you know when and where you can pick up the sign.
