Ahhhh...EXCUS ME! Why did Mr. Huffman fail to mention Westlands’ letting the Federal Government off the hook for $1.2 BILLION in exchange for taking on the drainage responsibility?
It’s odd that critics of this agreement call it fiscally irresponsible with no commensurate benefit to the public. In reality, the agreement reduces taxpayer costs by roughly $3 billion, money that Reclamation would otherwise have to pay to fulfill court-ordered mandates. Instead, the federal government’s liability is limited to about $375 million, a savings of over $2.6 billion.
