The Sites Reservoir will store twice as much water as Folsom Lake, or 1.2 - 1.8 million acre-feet. This is about year's worth of water for 12,000,000 to 18,000,000 people. 25,000,000 Californians get their water from the Delta, so this is a substantial project. When we have very wet winters like we saw two years ago, Sites will hold the excess and also act as flood control. Sites was first proposed almost 30 years ago. In 1996, it was passed up for authorization by the Clinton administration. In less than two years, the Trump administration has taken decisive action to get shovels in the ground. Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke said, "This is an amazing project and has so many benefits both for not only agriculture but for human drinking water as well as the environment."
