Reservoirs are Full
Sep 19, 2019
We have just three days left of summer, and every major reservoir in the state is more than 100\% above average. Still, many farmers were shorted 25\% of their water allocations and forced to turn on their pumps to make up the difference. With this year's rainy season at 200\% of normal, it would have been a great time to keep water in the ground and allow our aquifers to replenish. Farmers could have done just that if their water was delivered. So far this year, 8,741,637,362,100 (8.74 trillion) gallons of fresh water has become unusable seawater. This is exponentially more than what is needed to prevent saltwater intrusion into the delta, a necessity in which all water users agree is important.
