PRODUCE DEMAND PLUMMETS—Where’s the tractor & disk?
With the market plummeting, prices at below the cost of harvest...no contribution margins...many acres are being left unharvested...absent demand from restaurants, schools, food service companies and individual shoppers, who are staying at home due to COVID19!
At over $5,000 per acre direct costs pre-harvest...the losses to the growers/packers/shippers will be astounding! Yet, the consumers will continue to enjoy abundant-healthy produce...when they return!
Joann Goodman Find a way to sell direct to consumers. I want to know who I can reach out to to buy food directly from when supply chains get interrupted. Maybe get together with other farmers to offer an online marketplace where we can place an order and pick up or get delivery of a box of produce.
Jim Verboon WE can grow it safely and locally, but we need a market! COMMERCE = ECONOMY, the lack of freedom and commerce = - economy. SAD.
Shane R Goslin Yesterday at a California Costco,
I bought a months worth of produce and it was all being sold for 2/3 of the normal price. Spinach and Kale were half of normal price. All product labels said, Product of USA.
